pre-july work in progress...

I'm not sure of who I am blogging for these summer days.  Hopefully your all off doing fun things when you're not here reading about us!  :-)

The inspiration for this project came by way of this post over at crazymomquilts blog: http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2012/06/being-responsible.html .

I am making a seat cover for the bay window bench!  I did not purchase anything new for this project.  The stripe fabric (Nicey Jane collection by Heather Bailey) had a prior life as window valances right above those windows in this photo:

The blue fabric (Chanteclaire fabrics)  I purchased before Sofia was born.  I'm not sure when I purchased the white fabric -- maybe about five years ago.  Anyhoo...I am very happy about working on this.  It is keeping my sanity while trying to organize summer doings for us -- and in between all of the annual routine medical screenings (who knew that I would ever become a high maintenance kind of gal!)

I need to run -- there's some fabric that needs cutting, and, some dinner that needs making...

the thunder monster was here...

...aaaaahhhhh!

I moved my cute little bunny (you can see him in the background photo) to another spot on the porch so that I could put out a "patriotic" statue for the upcoming July 4 holiday.  I moved him around the porch and thought I had found a safe -- temporary -- spot for him.  Well, yesterday's thunderstorms proved me wrong. While looking out the window, I was sad -- and thought he had lost part of his ear in this dreadful accident.   But, this morning we went outside to assess the damage -- and found the bunny, with both ears intact!  :-)

Hope the thunder monster didn't leave his mark at your house.

FYI:  The "thunder monster" is a fictional character that lives in the imagination of Ozzy.  Ozzy shakes all over when there are thunderstorms, or, when he hears "big noises".  Aaaaaaaahhhh!

...hey, barbara ann...!  She began blooming 2 days ago -- and looks especially lovely today!

~ day lily in my garden...

One of my favorite plants in my garden.  :-)

FYI -- When I purchased this plant, the tag showed that the variety is named "Barbara".  I did not give it that name -- hee hee! :-)

here's some sunshine for ya!...

Sofia and her following photographer, Rick, had the opportunity to visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty last week.  It was her 5th grade class trip (can you believe I went there on my 5th grade class trip also :-)!  The weather forecast mentioned rain -- but "the powers that be" smiled upon Sofia, her photographer, and Ms. Liberty that day!

Since today has been such a washout -- thought you might appreciate this photo even more! :-)

viewing day...

Today was viewing day for Sofia at gymnastics...

I think she has improved since last year:

She still needs to work on the uneven parallel bars -- it's not her favorite apparatus.

I can't figure out what the deal is with that, because she likes doing this...

Yay! :-)

turn on the solar...

And, just as we were about to do this -- it started to rain!

It was a brief passing shower -- so at this moment -- I believe -- this post is being written courtesy of the sun! :-)

a little tlc...

We finally got around to giving this vintage fish aquarium stand a little tlc. Rick got a little bored last weekend and decided to work on it.  Since it has been sitting on the front porch for almost 2 years -- it needed a good wire brushing and a bit of sanding.  It was also in need of a top shelf (since that was a open space to hold the  fish tank.)  I found an old oven rack in the basement that was salvaged years ago from an apartment size stove in our house in Baldwin.  Rick cut a piece of remnant wood to brace it -- gave it a coat of Rustoleum spray paint -- and -- Voila!  C'est tres jolie! :-)
