some summer crafting...

This week, Miss Sofia is keeping herself extremely busy with her crafts.  While she is making her crafts she is so quiet that you could hear a pin drop...  This is the ONLY time she is quiet.  All of her energy goes into making the craft item as quickly and expertly as possible.  Here she is to explain the details of the woman's wallet that she made from plain old silver/gray duct tape.  In person, it is sleek, modern, functional, and, totally usable.

As we were doing the video and taking the still photos, she commented on the "improvements" that she would be making.  She "apologized" for the "flaws" that she was pointing out -- and reminded me that this is the first time she had made the woman's wallet.  She has been working on the men's billfold style wallet and other assorted items -- continually improving those as she goes along.  She ran out of her colorful "designer" duct tape -- but she wanted to work on this wallet.  She found this roll of "Daddy's duct tape" in the basement and asked me if she could use have it.  In the absence of color and pattern of her chosen medium, I believe she excelled in the functional aspect of the item.  I am impressed by her dedication to her crafting technique.  Good job, Sofia!  :-)

more baking to do...

Sofia has been busy creating with clay.  Click on the photo to see her little creations up close.  My favorite for the day is in the bottom right corner -- it is my Valentine's Day gift from her -- a red heart, pink letter "U" and an exclamation point!  When she gets home from school we will be baking these...finally... :-)

Happy Valentine's Day!

mom...can you help me make a magic circle...

Okay -- I will help you after I finish...

making beds

doing some laundry

vacuuming the kitchen

baking the brownies
~*~

~*~

making lunch for you and Nicholas

helping Nicholas with religion homework

wrapping gifts

cooking dinner

hemming your pants

But, mom, I can help you with those things (except I am not doing religion homework with Nicholas at all).

Okay, it's a deal!

So, yesterday turned out to be not so bad at all. :-) In case you don't know, the "magic ring" is a few crocheted chain stitches surrounding a circle of yarn. Sofia has picked up her crocheting again, and is working on some cute little amugurumi figures. After we figured out how to make the "magic ring" she worked diligently by herself for about an hour and finished the head to the "dogbot" she is making. Both the finished crocheted head and a picture of the dogbot are shown in the picture above. She pulled out the stitches quite a few times and redid them. But now, I think she's getting the hang of it! The book she is working from is: Crobots by Nelly Pailloux
I think I accomplished more than I had planned -- and, we even had a chance to watch some of "The Nutcracker" ballet on TV before falling asleep. It was the "best" snow day ever! :-)

Hope your Saturday is too!

hey, mom I'm bored...

I finished painting the nutcracker -- what should I do now?

~~

Why don't you draw a picture of the nutcracker on the chalkboard?

Okay I'm done with that -- what should I draw now?

~~

Why don't you draw a picture of Ma and Pa Farmer?

Okay I'm done with that -- what should I draw now?
~~

Why don't you draw a picture of what makes you happy?

Hope you're having a sunny day! :-)

bedhead...

Yesterday was pajama, slippers, and, bed hair day at Sofia' s school. The bed hair inspired this hair creation for the day...

Why the q~tips and littlest pet shop cuties, I do not know -- but that is what she wanted and off to school she went.

This is what she drew at school:

Bed hair "a la" Sofia!

Apparently she enjoyed her bed hair -- because at the end of the school day when she got off the bus, the bed hair was still in place with all q~tips and littlest pet shop cuties accounted for!

my little artist!

In honor of Read Across America, the 1st and 2nd grade students at Sofia's elementary school are voluntarily taking part in a philanthropy project. Each child will create a picture of their favorite book. The finished work is then taped to the front of a new unopened box of cereal. The book boxes will be displayed in the school library, and then donated to a local charity. Here is the picture Sofia drew -- in about 15 minutes. She did not trace it -- the actual picture is on a 9 x 12 piece of paper (kind of an odd size, but that is what the school gave her to use).

For those of you unfamiliar with this book -- here is a picture of the actual cover.

I am impressed! Hope you are too!
