more iris love...
I had to create a background photo of them -- they are spectacular. I hope you are enjoying them as much as I am. Have a lovely weekend. :-)

Here are more "first" blooms from this morning's walk around the yard...

and so, the lovely begins...
New background photo 4.14.12. The cherry tree we planted last year has just started to bloom. The phlox is in full swing.
View the other way. The pink crabapple tree looks beautiful this year!
The Korean azalea on the west side of the house. This is one of my favorite types of azalea.
And, the dogwood tree. This is the first year that it has bloomed at the same time as the pink crabapple. It usually blooms at the end of April.

time for the next project...
The basement project is done! Seems like we just started this yesterday (not!) I cannot believe it is done, and, approved. I absolutely love it! This is the (floor height) view of the left side. I'm not seeing many people looking at the blog these days, so I am just making this post to show that the project is complete. Leave a comment if you are interested in seeing more photos. :-)

a little piece of history...
I have been trying to find the pieces of my family history... forever... At least once a year I start digging...again... Well... this year I have hit paydirt a couple of times. The little snippet above is the 1940 census for my father's side of the family. At ancestry.com, you can now search through the 1940 census (for a limited time it is free). I recommend giving it a look-see. You may just find out that you are not who you thought you were!

springtime awakenings...
Since we had such a mild winter, I am wondering what mysteries the conservation area will unfold. I am tempted to walk over there and perhaps take a young seedling, or, two... But, since the conservation area is protected, that would be illegal. Most people don't know about the laws that protect areas such as this. Basically, these laws state that you cannot add anything to these areas (such as dumping trash, grass, dirt, leaves, dog poo, etc.) and you cannot withdraw anything, (such as plants, rocks, pinecones, etc.) I totally appreciate these laws, and because of them, I can look out my front door and see the beauty in the photo below.
